Watching another episode of Man vs. Wild on the Discovery Channel tonight, I learned 2 more great tricks:
1) How to tell how much time until sunset: Hold the edge of your hand to the bottom of the sun and count how many finger widths to the horizon. Each finger width is approximately 15 minutes to sunset!
2) You can make a compass using a piece of wire, a leaf, a puddle of water, and static electricity from your hair! Put a leaf in a puddle of water. Rub the piece of wire in your hair and place on the leaf. The leaf & wire will spin to align wiith the earth’s magnetic poles!
Genius. Hopefully that second tip will never come in handy!
