I ran out of contacts lens supply finally, a little over the year’s worth. I didn’t budget to buy more. So I am in a kind of glasses purgatory. And it’s got me thinking…
It has got me thinking about why I need eye crutches at all. Is it possible that eye doctors are simply in the lens-selling and laser treatment-selling business? And that the large profits there prevents them from helping your eyes see better on their own?
I met a guy recently that works for a high end optical shop. He is personally confounded by the profits that are made on lenses for glasses where he works. They cost a couple of bucks to manufacture then he sells them for hundreds. I noticed this when I went to Pakistan: perfectly good lenses, made to order, ready next day, 10 bucks, with frames.
I think there is a conspiracy here against healthy eyes. I wonder how long it will take me “exercising” my vision before it improves to where I can drive without vision correction?
Time to find out…
How has it been going without glasses?
I’ve just been prescribed some and im thinking they will make my eyes weaker over time hence needing more and more lenses over time.
Please let me know by email too (copy & paste) as im interested in your opinion.
Thanks for your time.
Regards.

Thanks for asking! Unfortunately I was not motivated enough amongst my other activities this summer to pursue a month’s worth of eye exercises in earnest. I went without contact lenses though for a year and wore my glasses about 50 percent of the time. My right eye has somewhat improved over that time by .25 but I figure that could be a margin of error improvement. I found it difficult to do my eye work everyday with my glasses prescription. I have decided my next course of action will be to try to adopt my left eye contact prescription to my right eye (1.25 vs 3.00) as a starting point. That way I can still kind of see, drive, etc. Without as many worries in the month-long duration. Let me know if you follow the prescription for exercises and how you progress! Maybe it will inspire me :-)
Just out of interested, did this go anywhere? :)
I have not made any more measurable progress here, though I still believe it is possible to heal one’s own eyes. I’ve done the eye exercises for long periods of time, but I think there are other factors that have more importance. For example, blinking seems really important to eye health. I don’t think I blink often enough throughout the day, and not sure how to make this more habitual. Without blinking enough, the eyes cannot fully relax and get enough water to keep them healthy. Schools in Pondicherry India and a School for Self Healing in San Francisco California teach Bates method and other exercises which strengthen the oblique muscles of the eyes and make blinking more habitual. I also have a feeling that my neck tension is an issue with my eyesight. Having endured 5 whiplash car accidents, I also read that neck tension can contribute to poor eyesight. So I have some new angles to work with!
I should also add that the acidity of one’s eyes makes a difference. Someone in her forties started taking HCl when her vision started to go (far-sightedness) and she has been able to avoid glasses that way.
This is very interesting to me. There’s big business behind it, just like caffeine, tobacco, alkohol and fluoride.
Right – it’s important to question big profits.
