I’ve begun researching the topic of marriage, in the hope of contributing to the debate about where the institution is headed in our country. What arrangement(s) befit a free society like ours?

When I debated this question on a recent ballot initiative, my arguments came down to those unions that can be provided by the state versus those marriages that are a covenant with God.
I’m also a strict Constitutionalist following the First Amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” in conjunction with Amendment X “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.” Therefore, I believe the covenant of marriage belongs to the individual states and is not the business of the federal government.
Thanks for your perspective Hana!
